So I really loved the cosmos theme this month, and I've done absolutely nothing with it because I've just gotten sidetracked with other projects. Some of it has been finishing holiday gifts up, some of it has been other inspiration and some of it has been working on other projects. I've been working on this one seriously for about a month now, and I'm happy to say it's finished.
It's a mixed media work, for my word of the year, Gathering. It includes walnut dyed fabric, rice bag burlap, antique lace, embroidery, hand carved bird printmaking, free stitching to create the nest and appliqued eggs. Along the bottom I sewed on a number of my favorite found objects and buttons. I love that stuff, and I collect it compulsively. The tabs at the top are bits from a vintage table cloth that I tea stained.
Above the nest I embroidered the word Gathering in blue. My piece is a sampler of many of the things I can create, combined in a new way for me. It's posted over in my Etsy shop if you're looking. I'm working on raising money for more art supplies and books these days, so check it out! My art needs a good home. It's starting to fill up my house.
Wow, so much creativity in this piece, I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely piece. I love the theme and composition. Any particular books and supplies are you saving up for?
ReplyDeleteI would really like to try my hand at encaustic painting, and screen printing as well, and neither of them are cheap. As for books, there's so many! My Amazon wishlist is about a mile long. Books on sewing and art, books on herbalism and gardening, books on spirituality, women's history, anthropology.... I've gotten to the point in my reading where what I like is no longer always on the shelves at Barnes and Noble and I have to order them specially online.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me earlier. I see you do like birds! For me it is the flying that counts - though I watched 4 different species of bird visit my garden this morning - a robin, two great tits, two magpies and a blackbird.
ReplyDeleteYour home must be like walking into an art shop. I almost always bring the things I make out of my art studio and into the rest of my home. But I'm going to do it more consciously now after having read your post -- I think they just might soak of the vibe of life that way and it makes my home space all the more interesting! Thanks for visiting my blog and your great comments the other day about my drawing attempts!
ReplyDeleteI love your work. I am NOT into stitching/embroidery, but this looks so beautiful. I love the colors that you chose and the entire composition. Well, I love birds, so that might be one reason why it speaks to me, but I just love your creation. Beautiful.
