I'm never very good at introductions. I'm a person who flubs that whole first impression thing. I tend to spill wine all over myself, or trip, or just sound like a incoherent goofball. It takes me a while to get used to new people. I like to take my time, to see what they do. I'm an introvert, and while I can down a drink and chat it up, mostly that's not how I get to know people. I'm big on actions speaking louder than words. I'm an artist, and words don't always come easily. Sometimes they trickle like a clear spring, and sometimes they're just mud.
My mind live in a world of symbols and connections. Logic and intuition mingle and I kind of like it that way, but in a world of symbols, words look more like poetry than small talk. So here's a little introduction for you:
Sometimes I feel tired, or sad.
In my minds eye I see a tree
tall and swaying with a wild wind
I look up and the golden branches flow through the sky
as the sunset paints the world with a gentle brush
I touch the bark (still in my mind)
It is rough and beautiful
and I am happy.
I sit by my tree, and look out onto a lake
the winds of change whip up the waters
and I wonder where we will go
and my children are in my thoughts
and my husband is in my thoughts
and my community is in my thoughts
and my world is in my thoughts
and I am ready to stand up again.
I would like to share a little of my art with people, so I will give away one of my original hand carved block prints to two people as part of the One World One Heart giveaway.
This is my knitting spider. She's all tangled in thread and her UFO is looking like it's going to be frogged, but she keeps at it still. She's printed with soy based ink on vintage paper.
This is my newest lino-cut blockprint, a fox sleeping in the winter chill. She's also printed with soy based ink, mounted on a vintage music sheet, and then on a strathmore artist's paper. I carve each block by hand, and then print each print using a hand crank printing press or by burnishing by hand.
To enter to win just leave a comment. I'll randomly choose the winner on February 17th
I love your artwork, and I have a thing for foxes. :0) I'm in.

The knitting spider is a delight! Great work.
ReplyDeleteI think many of us artist feel more comfortable with an alternate form of expression. I'd much rather create something that shows how I feel, or perform a piece of music to express myself instead of finding the "proper words."
ReplyDeleteYour artwork is beautiful. Thank you for hosting a lovely visit!

HI! Thanks for entering in my giveaway. What gorgeous prizes. PLEASE,count me in ♥
ReplyDeleteLovely to meet you and I loved your introduction - you certainly have a way with words - love your prints but scared of spiders - the fox though is magical - I love foxes and have a gorgeous bronze fox on my mantelpiece as well as the ones that come to visit my garden. I can hear them barking to each other at night sometimes. I love them so much my dogs are red and white - springer spaniels and very fox like. Thanks for coming to visit my blog x
ReplyDeleteThese prints are great - I love the idea of a spider knitting away late into the night... while a fox sleep peacefully. Thanks for visiting me - I'm very happy to return the compliment. Hope you have a fun time visiting the OWOH blogs.
ReplyDeleteYour block prints are wonderful. Please include me in your drawing.
ReplyDeleteHope you have oodles of fun during OWOH. I've enjoyed it so much over the years. Thanks for your generosity and participation in the event. Count me in please, I love that knitting spider.

Hi from San Diego! I had to pop over to your etsy page to see more of your work. I love that you hand carve them! Very cool. And your apron is adorable! I grew up just south of you in Ohio... just over the line a bit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win! I am keeping my fingers crossed!
I can't tell you how relieved I am that I am not the only one who flubs up introductions. We sound very similar in that respect. It takes me an extremely long time to get to know people as well. I really love your prints you are giving away. I really love them both, but for some reason the fox is speaking to me just lying there so peacefully.
