Poetry for the Earth

Back from my hiatus, I have things to share with you. I've been writing poetry and painting, and living life a little, along with the usual round of daily life: cleaning, cooking, helping friends and family heal, gardening in my little yard.

First I'd like to share a little poem I'm working on. It's about the earth, and my relationship to her. How I interact on both the physical and emotional level.

I feel your pull, earth mother
Each and every day I strive against and with it.
Pushing against you, testing my strength and my will.

In the morning I come back to the ground
To the smell of dew and the sun swings back around
As I wake to the sound of the birds.
I touch you
and a deep peace resides in my heart.

While the sun rides high we are partners.
The waves of my work and yours collide, ripple and divide.
When I find the tide of your rhythm, the work is easy,
Effortless.
My feet drum a steady beat against your darkness.

In the evening she comforts me.
After a long day of work and frustration I feel
The pull through the haze
to lay against the green mother.
I look up,
To be renewed by the spinning, rotating, joy of the stars.

We dance together you and I.
Resistance and flow,
Come and go,
I can jump,
But I always come home.

  1. I like your poem, when i read the words my mind goes back to when i first started following your blog the art that you made and still do has such a in depth feeling to it.yesterday out side on my swing sitting buy our garden, that my hubby takes care of,there was a robin on the fence just tweeting directly at me i think she was saying i have a nest buy here so be aware i will protect it.This was so funny because she went on and on talking to me then flew over to the wire on the other side and did the same thing,it was beautiful outside.so i know how you feel as your soaking up all this mother nature.

  2. Thank you so much. I think part of the reason I write poetry and paint is to connect with other people. I'm really glad you liked it.

A couple of years ago we had a robin nest on our porch, it was so wonderful to get to watch them. But those robins really didn't like us getting too close!
